I Love The Lord, My Strength
“ I love you, Lord, you are my strength.”
–Psalm 18:1
This verse resonates deeply with me, reminding me of God's mighty power, His protective embrace, and the terrifying strength He wields when defending His beloved. When I read, “He shot His arrows and scattered my enemies, with great bolts of lightning He routed them” (Psalm 18:14), I am filled with awe. The thought of God fighting for me, scattering my enemies with His divine might, is humbling. And it makes me feel safe, knowing that this same God is my Father.
Can you imagine having a Father who defends you with such power? Who fights on your behalf with such fierceness and precision? It’s no wonder David, in awe of God's might, began this psalm with, “I love you, Lord, my strength.”
But it doesn’t stop there. God doesn't only fight for me; He trains me. He teaches me how to stand strong in battles of my own. “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze” (Psalm 18:33).
What an empowering thought! With God’s guidance, I am not only protected but equipped to face life's challenges. He coaches me through every fight, and with His training, I can overcome anything.
Just imagine the outcome when God Himself is coaching and preparing me for war: “I pursued my enemies and overtook them… I crushed them… they fell beneath my feet.” (Psalm 18:37).
With God as my Father, I have nothing to fear. His strength becomes my strength, and with that strength, I stand victorious. I love the Lord, my strength.
Do you?
