LESSONS FROM 2024

Image
INTRODUCTION As the year draws to a close, I’ve taken some time to reflect on the lessons 2024 has taught me. Growth, after all, is a lifelong journey, and each year adds something new to our story. Here are some of the insights that shaped me this year. I hope they resonate with you too. 1.) There's nothing wrong with waiting a little bit for what you want. 2.) Along with growth comes pain. But that's okay; it's gonna worth every pain. 3.) At the end of the day, no one is responsible for my success or failure. No one but Me. 4.) My life isn't to be measured with other's timeline. I set my own timeline. 5.) Life is all about phases; and each phases pass by before you know it. So live your life  like the present is the last. 6.) To grow, get ready to get uncomfortable. Nothing great comes from the comfort zone. 7.) Most times, things don't always go as planned. So, I have learnt to adjust my sail to the direction of the wind. 8.) Nothing gives me peace like knowi...

I Love The Lord, My Strength

Image
“ I love you, Lord, you are my strength.” –Psalm 18:1  This verse resonates deeply with me, reminding me of God's mighty power, His protective embrace, and the terrifying strength He wields when defending His beloved. When I read, “He shot His arrows and scattered my enemies, with great bolts of lightning He routed them” (Psalm 18:14), I am filled with awe. The thought of God fighting for me, scattering my enemies with His divine might, is humbling. And it makes me feel safe, knowing that this same God is my Father. Can you imagine having a Father who defends you with such power? Who fights on your behalf with such fierceness and precision? It’s no wonder David, in awe of God's might, began this psalm with, “I love you, Lord, my strength.” But it doesn’t stop there. God doesn't only fight for me; He trains me. He teaches me how to stand strong in battles of my own. “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze”...

THE POWER WITHIN: BECOMING YOUR OWN SOURCE OF MOTIVATION

Image
“Successful people don't need a lighted fuse to motivate them. Their motivation comes from within. If we wait for others to motivate us, what happens when a coach, a boss, or other inspirational person doesn't show up?” —John C. Maxwell     It’s good to have those people around you who push you into becoming the best version of yourself. It’s a beautiful thing to have someone who propels you into action, fuels you, and gives you reasons to keep going. But here’s the reality: what happens when that person is unreachable or even gone? What happens when, suddenly, they stop inspiring you? What happens? You find yourself at a loss. You feel unable to proceed, move forward, or take any action. Why? Because you’ve always relied on others to fuel your drive and actions. Don’t get me wrong—I’m not saying you shouldn’t rely on people for support. Having support systems is essential. But let your strength come from within first. Be your own first motivation. Because in the end, wh...

A Gift Beyond the Bow (a short story)

Image
As we celebrate Christmas, the spirit of giving takes center stage. However, it’s not always the shiny presents wrapped with colorful ribbons that make the most lasting impression.  Sometimes, the greatest gifts come in unexpected forms, reminding us of the deeper meaning behind the season. This story explores the idea that the true gift of Christmas often lies beyond the material—found in love, connections, and selfless acts.  Join me as we journey through a Christmas that transcends the wrapping paper and reveals a gift that lasts far longer than any bow.

Life's Changing Stages.

Image
Have you ever paused to reflect on how life changes, stage by stage? One day, you’re ‘this girl/boy,’ and the next, you’re ‘Aunty/Uncle.’ Life, as I’ve learned, is a journey through seasons—each with its purpose and beauty. There was a time when I used to be addressed as ‘this girl.’ It was a label I carried with little thought, a simple reminder of my youthful days. But lately, something has shifted. I’ve noticed that even people older than I am now greet me as ‘Aunty’ or ‘Sisi.’ At first, it felt strange. In my mind, I’d laugh and think, “Where is the aunty? I’m still a child o!” But over time, I’ve realized that these terms aren’t just words—they reflect the stages I’ve moved through in life. And the truth is: life is in stages. It’s that simple. Understanding Life’s Stages Whether we like it or not, life is a progression. The ‘girl/boy’ of today might become the ‘Aunty/Uncle’ of tomorrow, and eventually, the ‘Grandma/Grandpa.’ Each stage brings new responsibilities, new perspective...

Patience and Hope: Finding Peace in the Waiting Room of Life

The Price for the Prize

Image
One of the best books I read this year is Jim Rohn’s 7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness . A part of the book that truly resonated with me is this:  “I  look at my life and ask, ‘Well, here's what I want, but am I willing to become the kind of person it will take?’ If I am too lazy, if I'm not willing to learn, read, study, and grow to become what I must become, then I cannot expect to attract what I want. Now faced with a choice, I must decide to either change myself or change my wants.” When I read that, it hit deep. There are many things I wish to accomplish, many goals I dream of achieving. But the real question is: Am I willing to become the kind of person it will take? Am I willing to pay the price for the prize?

The Seed's Journey: What It Teaches Us About Growth

Image
Growth begins in the most unexpected places. Like a seed buried in the soil, our greatest transformations often start in darkness. Through the seed’s journey, we can find lessons for our personal growth: 1. Buried to Be Rooted Before growth begins, the seed must be buried in darkness. Though lonely and uncertain, this phase is essential for rooting. Sometimes, our darkest moments are where our strength takes hold. 2. Shedding the Old To reach the light, the seed must shed its old self. It dies and decays, a process that mirrors our need to let go of outdated habits and mindsets to embrace transformation. 3. Emergence Into Light What seems like an ending is often a beginning. From the decay of the old comes the sprout of something new. Transformation requires patience and faith in unseen progress. 4. Survival Against Odds Even after breaking free, the seedling faces challenges: floods, pests, and harsh weather. Similarly, growth in our lives demands resilience, discipline, and adaptabil...

The Night I Met Insomnia: A Lesson on Prayer

Image
“ Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 It all started innocently enough—just a slight cough and catarrh. It was my 300-level first semester, and exams had begun in full force. I had back-to-back papers, so I couldn’t afford to fall sick. Determined to avoid illness, I visited the school clinic and was given some medication. Now, on a normal day, I hate taking pills. But this was no ordinary time—my success in these exams would determine if I’d qualify for teaching practice in my final year. So, I put my dislike for pills aside and took the medicine as soon as I returned to my hostel. That evening, I prepared for my midnight reading session, hoping the drugs wouldn’t knock me out completely. But little did I know I was in for a night I’d never forget.

FINDING PEACE: THE FREEDOM OF LETTING GO.

Image
There was a time in my life when I thought I could make everyone happy. Funny, right? I don’t even know where that belief came from, but I was always trying so hard to please people. Guess what? I failed. Miserably. That failure hit me hard. It left me feeling devastated and inadequate. No matter how much effort I put in, it was never enough. The more I tried, the more I lost something precious: my peace of mind. A Life-Changing Realization Along the way, I discovered something life-changing—it’s impossible to make everyone happy. I came to terms with the fact that: It’s not my responsibility to solve everyone’s problems. Happiness is an inside job —it’s something each person must find for themselves. Once I let go of that unrealistic expectation, my life changed for the better. Letting Go and Finding Peace I’ve learned to stop carrying burdens that aren’t mine. I now understand that: There are problems I can’t fix. Some situations are beyond my control. And you know what? That’s okay....

TAKING THE INITIATIVE

Image
John Maxwell, in his book Talent Is Never Enough , said: “People who take initiative and work hard may succeed, or they may fail. But anyone who doesn't take initiative is almost guaranteed to fail.” As a child, whenever I struggled with something or didn’t know how to approach a task, my mum would often say, “Can’t you use your initiative?” Or, if I asked her what she considered an unnecessary question, she’d respond, “ Omo yii, lo initiative ti Olorun fun e” (you this girl, use the initiative God gave you). Back then, I thought it was pure wickedness. I mean, why not just tell me what to do instead of watching me fumble? Why let me make mistakes when she could simply make things easier? Eventually, she’d help me—but only after I had tried and my efforts failed. Looking back now, I realize it wasn’t wickedness. She was training me for adulthood and the responsibilities that come with it. Growth requires taking the initiative, and life favors those who dare to step forward withou...
